‘Mission Admission’ is to finally begin on Tuesday, after an almost two-week wait with endless confusion. Even as Delhi University opens its gates to admit a total of 54,000 students, it is impertinent that one keeps abreast of the new guidelines that have been issued and the old courses that have been restored. The Hindu lays out all of this and more.

The cancellation of the controversial Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) and the revival of the traditional programmes have also revived some courses that had been done away with like the BA, B.Sc. and B.Com (Programme). It is important to keep a lookout for these courses, applications for courses you haven’t applied for is also possible now. The university central application forms will be available in each college and even those who have not applied earlier are eligible to apply again.

Courses like BBS and B.A. Honours (Business Economics) that were replaced with the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), have also made a comeback and admissions will be made on the basis of the criteria announced for the BMS admissions for 2014. However, the best four subjects will be calculated as per the admission guideline for these courses prevalent in the year 2012-13. The seat distribution will be restored to the 2012-13 status. The schedule for Centralised Counselling is yet to be announced.

The additional eligibility criterion, which was done away with, has also staged a comeback, with colleges free to set them. This means that depending on the stream you come from, the cut-offs in each college will be different.

There are also some standard rules to keep in mind while taking admissions.

There is no first-come-first-serve basis, every student meeting the cut-offs will be admitted if they come within the three days given for admissions. However, keeping in mind that college counters open at 9 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. if you are one of the lucky ones to make the cut in the first list, be sure to take admissions before Thursday 1 p.m. else you have no chance whatsoever. On the other hand, evening colleges will open its admission windows from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., also starting on Tuesday and ending Thursday. There will be no extension. Also, once the timing for admission under the first list is done, and the second list is released, there is no chance of taking admissions if you missed it.

Another most important thing is that once you take admissions in one college and then decide that you would want admission in another college, it is compulsory to first cancel the admission in the first college. The student will get documents immediately but the fees may take some time to be refunded. There is a danger of both admissions getting cancelled if the student doesn’t cancel the first admission.

Also a pre-requisite for admissions at every colleges are documents like Class X Board exam certificate, class X mark sheet , class XII mark sheet , class XII provisional certificate or original certificate, character certificate (recent) , OBC (non creamy layer), SC/ST certificate in the name of the student getting admitted, at least two passport size self attested photographs and a transfer certificate from the school or college as well as a migration certificate from the board or university is required from those students who have passed the senior secondary exams from outside Delhi.

Students who have already been admitted for Delhi University’s BMS course in 2013 will be allowed to continue with this course, but instead of four years they will get their degrees in three years. The B.Tech. students too will be allowed to continue but they will have to complete the full cycle of four years.

The UGC Commission while recommending these actions has also advised colleges to seek its approval as also that of the AICTE wherever necessary.
