Voxy, the education technology company that pioneered personalized and adaptive English language learning, announced today that it was chosen to present at the 33rd annual Second Language Research Forum 2014 (SLRF), that will take place from October 23-25, 2014 at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.

Voxy’s Pedagogy team will present a research paper entitled “Lexical Acquisition Through Technology-Mediated Learning,” which explores how much adult learners understand the meaning of targeted and untargeted vocabulary they have encountered as they read and listen to genuine texts within a Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) framework. The findings will be presented by Voxy’s Chief Education Officer, Katharine B. Nielson, Ph.D and Rebecca Jee.

“Voxy is dedicated to learning outcomes, and we are constantly tailoring our teaching methods based on results and research in second language acquisition,” said Nielson. “These findings raise important questions about the appropriate balance between teaching learners specific vocabulary and comprehension of genuine content, which will enable us to further develop our product and deliver the best learning experience.”

“While we are discovering the most effective way to educate our learners, there is still more research to be done,” said Paul Gollash, Voxy’s Founder and CEO. “We look forward to presenting our findings at the Second Language Research Forum and having the opportunity to receive our colleagues’ input and discuss avenues for future research.”

The Second Language Research Forum highlights the bridges that exist between the various disciplines involved in SLA research. It works to improve understanding of second language learning, acquisition, instruction, and use.
