Argument Essay:-
"For many years the city of Grandview has provided annual funding for the Grandview Symphony. Last year, however, private contributions to the symphony increased by 200 percent and attendance at the symphony's concerts-in-the-park series doubled. The symphony has also announced an increase in ticket prices for next year. Given such developments, some city commissioners argue that the symphony can now be fully self-supporting, and they recommend that funding for the symphony be eliminated from next year's budget."

The author's argument that funding for the symphony should be banished as they are now self-supporting seems to be tenable at first glance. However, conclusion relies on assumptions for which there are no clear evidences.

To begin with, author's argument that funding to symphony is not required based on lack of evidences like private contributions to the symphony increased by 200 percent. However, it is difficult to consider that private contributions will always give funds to them. It is clearly visible from the situation that today city commissioners of Grandview thinks that the private contributions is more so it is not required to fund symphony , in the same way these private contributions can also decrease sometime. Here, no evidence is provided which provide confirmation of these private contributions as they are not tied up through any agreement with symphony.

In addition to it, author considered that as the attendance at the symphony's concerts is doubled so they can make money of their own, however, it is inappropriate to think that people counting will always remain the same. Public mood is always volatile like some people hear jazz, some like religious music or classical and if they got anything better than symphony, they will definitely divert themselves towards other concert. It is difficult for any person to get involved in all type of music genre. So there could be a possibility symphony will lose funds.

Furthermore, it is shown that symphony has also announced an increase in ticket prices for next year; this also leads to an adverse affect on their popularity. If in the same area another organization also starts doing concerts with less ticket prices then it will definitely give a tough competition to symphony. People always divert them towards other concerts, mostly on the basis on two things, concert should be entertaining, and ticket price should be less. If these new concerts play according to public requirements and ticket price is also less as compare to symphony then people will definitely attract more towards them. This will affect symphony, and it becomes a requirement for it to reduce its ticket prices due to which need of funds will increase.

In conclusion, writer may not necessarily be wrong to assert that funding to symphony is not required because they are self-supporting now. But this argument provided by author is not substantiated with enough evidences like whether symphony is already filled with the great amount of money or not, which prove that symphony is self-supporting now. So to bolster the argument author has to provide more conclusive evidences providing information of symphony's wealth and profit more manifestly, which helps in proving that symphony is well established now and there is no need to provide funds to them.
