I believe that a society needs to instill a sense of competition in its youth in order to enable one to understand strengths and weaknesses, learn from previous mistakes and be a constantly updated with current trends in the field. These are various qualities required in a capable leader.

Firstly, a leader in any field needs to indentify the sources of strengths and weaknesses to be able to rightly utilize and improve them respectively. Only in a competitive environment would there be a scope for such identification. A competitive feeling calls for need to indentify our positives and negatives. Without a competitive motivation in a company, a Manager wouldn't bother to know who his best subordinates are and hence wouldn't be utilizing their capabilities to the fullest, thus depriving the society off their talents.

Secondly, when competitiveness is introduced we are forced to think on the lines of learning and improving from our previous mistakes, in order to be the best. A competition among political parties for power compels them to look into their errors over the previous year and not make the mistakes again to gain the vote of the citizens.

Thirdly, a leader needs to be updated with the current trends in order to progress. A competitive sense inculcates the need to be ahead of others. One of the reasons behind the immense technological developments in recent years could be attributed to the competition between leading companies to produce products that outshine their competitors.

However, one may argue that a sense of co-operation instills an important quality required in a leader. It allows various views to be shared and discussed and hence benefits all. Before starting a project, the manager and the members have meetings and discussions to look into all possibilities and ideas for the project, to finally settle with the best.

In conclusion, sense of competitiveness, provides the basis for sculpting strong values in the leaders of tomorrow.
