The following appeared in a letter from the faculty committee to the president of Seatown University:

A study conducted at nearby Oceania University showed that faculty retention is higher when professors are offered free tuition at the university for their own college-aged children. Therefore, Seatown should institute a free-tuition policy for its professors for the purpose of enhancing morale among the faculty and luring new professors.

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.

The letter from the faculty committee to the president of Seatown University lacks a lot of information. We don't know whether Oceania university has other incentives for faculty as well. We also don't have any proof that it will enhance the morale and bring in new professors.

The study showed that Oceania University faculty retention is higher when professor are offered free tuition at the university for their college-aged children. That may be true but the faculty at Oceania may also be offered a better pay, better benefits package and vacation time which could all result in higher faculty retention rate.
The statement that free tuition will enhance morale among the faculty and lure in new professors has no proof to show that would be the result of free tuition. This is just an assumption which could turn out to be false.

Overall, free tuition would be a great incentive to retain higher faculty retention but there are multiple other factors that have been overlooked in the letter from the faculty committee.
