People who hold high expectations for others are awarded with high performance and respect.

Albeit under the best of circumstances, having high expectations for individuals may result in positive feedback and consideration from them; however, as long as we do not take a few respective preconditions into account, we are likely to encounter negative consequences. Therefore, I believe that people who hold high expectations for others are not necessarily awarded with high performance and respect.

First and foremost, for achieving the optimal results in terms of our expectations for others, we should be cautious that our expectations must fit the individuals’ status; that is, prior to forming any imaginations of others we should possess adequate awareness of their abilities as well as their singular situations. Because if our expectations from a typical person does not match his or her condition, either we or our audience might be frustrated so that a split or conflict may emerge between two sides. Hence, if we are interested to hold high expectations for others, it is necessary to gather relatively sufficient information about their personal profile in order to create an optimal situation in which our audience act successfully and subsequently respond positively to our expectations.

Secondly, we cannot develop high expectations for others unless we have enough knowledge from their family, educational, cultural and social background. Different societies have their varied collection of social standards so that people evolve in accordance with the educational qualities they acquire from their communities. For instance, the majority of people who grown up from developed or undeveloped countries are rarely equipped with strong educational background; thus, when they attend a prestigious academic institute they may display a wide range of deficiencies. As a result, if we set higher standards, those far from their predecessor, they definitely respond awkwardly.

Another example is related to the status quo in third world countries where people are unwilling to have individuals in their society to set higher expectations for them. I have personally observed many individuals who resist against their teacher, professors, managers and even leaders who strive to hold high expectations for them with the purpose of galvanizing them to move forward. Since they do not possess prerequisite qualities for being people with higher standards, they largely oppose any form of higher expectations; as a consequence, in such societies we receive negative responses.

While in developed and sophisticated societies having high expectations for individuals are most likely awarded with high performance and respect, I conjecture this scenario is unlikely to occur in societies where people have not prepared for adjusting themselves for superior expectations.
