The argument states that there is a decline in the number of teenagers for community service. It also tells that teenagers will be benefited by engaging themselves in community service. So the argument states that they must complete forty hours of community service prior to graduation. At first it appears to be convincing, but the author does not specify certain things, which has led to rifles with holes and assumptions.
Firstly, the author states that there is a great opportunity for teenagers to participate in community services. The number of teenagers declined in recent years. There is no reason specified behind such a drop age in the number, or as to why is it happening.
Secondly, it is found that teachers, parents and other community service members are of the opinion that involvement of students in community service will inculcate good values. But the reason why students are deviating away from it is not answered by the author.
Furthermore, the author states that before graduation, students must complete their community service program. Such an action will not be welcomed by the students. The author does not specify any reason behind the students disinterest, which can be inferred from the decline in their participation in community service.
At first instance, the opinion of the author appears to be cogent enough. If the author would have elucidated the above reasons, then it would have been more convincing and helpful to correlate the students participation with their development. The argument is otherwise full of flaws.
