Essay topics:

Society should make efforts to save endangered species only if the potential extinction of those species is the result of human activities

The writer has said it quite sloppily that we must only take measures for the protection of those endangered species whose extinction is being caused by human interference. He is totally wrong in saying this. As a more intellectual species we are bound with responsibility for the safety and shelter of other less intellectual species whether the reason for their annihilation is human activity or natural.

Potentially endangered species which are on the brink of extinction must be saved no matter what is the reason either human activity or natural calamity. If we restrain ourselves from the protection of such endangered species only because of the reason that their extinction is being caused by some natural catastrophe and not by the direct human activity then we might end up loosing a species which will never be seen in future. These animals share the equal rights of living on this earth as we humans do. If they are not able to save themselves from some natural calamity then we must take this responsibility. Suppose a killing disease is widespread among a group of animals which possesses a severe threat for their survival. As these animals are not capable of finding cure for this disease for themselves should we leave them in that condition? No. it’s our responsibility as a greatly intellectual species to find cure for such disease and thus avoid the threat of extinction of such animals.

History holds so many examples where several species were destroyed completely owing to some natural catastrophes, diseases or asteroid falls. Some of those species would have been alive today if some actions had been taken by us in the past. E.g. grey wolves. The reason of the extinction of extinction of these grey wolves was a widespread disease which was killing them at a faster rate. Unable to find a cure for themselves they all ended up dead. But we humans if had taken their cause of extinction seriously then we could have provide them with some cure and thus might have avoided their extinction. To avoid such mass extinction of some present day endangered species we have to take the responsibility for their protection. We must analyse their cause of extinction and if it is in our hands to rectify those reasons then we must certainly take measures to do it.

In present day now it has become quite hard for us to shed blame for the extinction of such animals. Human activity either directly or indirectly Is the main reason of the loosing count of these animals. The ice deer’s of the Antarctica are few species which have been lost in the history. The reason for their extinction was the melting glacier of Antarctica which prohibited them from moving from one island to other. As the vegetation deleted on the island which was their food for survival, they also progressed to their end. Was this a natural calamity? No. it was this increased global warming which caused the melting of these glaciers. And all of us know why the global warming is increasing, because of human activities. Thus we cannot distinguish the reasons for the extinction of certain species as human activity or natural catastrophe. All we need to do it is to find a solution for that potential problem and fix it.

Author’s views are subjected to many questions. It is entirely wrong to say that we must save those species only which have been on risk of extinction owing to human activities. We must also take measures for the protection of those endangered species whose existence is on risk owing to some unknown diseases. They are our natural heritages. If not saved now, then our future generation will see them only in pictures.
