Every year several languages die out. Some people think that this is not important because life will be easier if there are fewer languages in the world.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion.

From the beginning of times, languages have risen, developed and died out with the changes of the balance of power of many empires. There are those who argue that this process is inevitable and that the world would be better when there are fewer languages. In my opinion, however, this view should be carefully considered owning to reserving the variety of languages have clear benefits.

It is true that the decrease in the number of languages would result in some positive effects. Take for example students, who do not need to learn many different sorts of foreign languages to support for their future careers. Consequently, the burden of studies would be decreased significantly; in turn, student's results could be enhanced. However, in the vast majority of circumstances, this process would lead to a great deal of undesirable consequences for the whole societies.

One of the most significant drawbacks of this is that the death of languages would contribute to the loss of culture, traditional rules, history and many other useful aspects of life. For instance, young people could no longer enjoy traditional events and find out about their ancestors. As a consequence, the special unique features of many countries would disappear.

Furthermore, the increase in popularity of strong languages could cause to the more intensive social divides. For example, people who live at remote and undeveloped areas would be at disadvantaged when it comes to learning and associating with popular languages; eventually, they are further and further left behind compared to those who live in cities.

Overall, in my view, the loss of many languages could have some beneficial effects; however, these advantages are negligible and easily outweighed by the disadvantages.
