Essay topics:

Several languages die every year. Many people feel this is a positive trend and that a world with fewer languages promotes harmony and understanding between people. Analyze both sides of this argument and provide your opinion.

Developing language was the first initial step that the mankind took towards advancement. Many languages have evolved, since the beginning of the era. But, slowly many of the ancient languages are dying out, and some people take it as a positive sign for communal harmony, while others have opposite view. This essay will discuss both the views and state the preference.

Firstly, uniformity in language will have numerous advantages in this age of globalization. People across the world will be able to communicate their feelings and thoughts more freely and honestly, to any person around the world when there are no lingual barriers. For instance, English, which has attained the status of lingua franca, has made outsourcing possible. Many international companies have established their branches in developing countries, and the one main requirement for the person to get the job is to be well-versed in English. This in turn, has helped many developing countries to be economically stable. India is one of the best examples which have progressed due to Multinational Companies.

However, with the disappearance of multiple languages, there are also many drawbacks to the society. Dying out of language is a clear indictor of vanishing of that particular culture. To cite an example, Aboriginal language, which was spoken by the natives of Australia, is no longer in existence as there is no one to speak it. Moreover, diversity is the beauty of nature; when everyone starts speaking one common language, slowly we will adapt their customs and cultures too. Thus, a nation will lose its integrity and will be just following blindly what the other nations show. Co-habitation, drug-addiction, single parenting is some of the examples which less developed nations have adopted with alacrity, neglecting their own tradition and language.

To conclude, even though preserving one’s own language is must for all, the world will progress only there is a single dialect. Therefore, it is hoped in future single linguistic system will evolve.
