QUES:The charts below show the number of Japanese tourists travelling abroad between 1985 and 1995 and Australia’s share of the Japanese tourist market.

The charts describe the changes witnessed in the number of Japanese people travelling abroad and in particular visiting Australia over a period of 10 years (1985-1995)

A glance at the chart shows that, during the year 1985 around 5 million Japanese travelled abroad and 2% of them went to Australia. The number of tourists from Japan going for International vacation consistently increased, and more than doubled (11million) in the year 1990 from the year 1985 figure. However, there was a slight fall in the number of visitors in the following year, and thereafter it steadily rose and reached 15 million tourists by the year 1995.

The second graph also shows that, the number of Japanese vacationing in Australia gradually increased and by 1988 reached 5% of the total Japanese travelling abroad. There was a small decrease in Australian market of Japanese tourist in the following year, but after this it steadily climbed and reached 6% of the total Japanese visiting abroad in the year 1993.

To sum up, number of Japanese holidaying in foreign nation and in Australia showed an upward trend over the decade.
