Most schools offer some type of physical education program to their students. Why is physical education important? Should physical education classes be required or optional?

Physical education offered to students provides them with a variety of benefits. These benefits are of great importance in a child's life.

One of the most important advantages of physical education is that it makes children fit and healthy. Fitness is very important in the present day world where diseases are so common. A fit child has a strong immune system which can resist such illnesses.

Another important advantage of physical education is that it gives an important helping hand in education. It helps refresh the child's mind which helps improve their concentration. Focused children can quickly study a greater amount of matter in a shorter period of time, which means that both quality and quantity is increased.

Physical Education is also vital to develop a spirit in children which is important in real life. There are various sports like soccer, basketball, swimming and many more which help develop a team spirit, a competitive spirit as well as a spirit of sportsmanship all of which holds a great deal of importance in the present world.

Though the reasons stated above indicate that physical education classes should be required but in my opinion they should be kept optional as to what do the children want to do. If they wish to be a part of such classes they should be free to join. If they do not wish to join physical education classes they should not be forced to do so.
