"Sentence Length SD is low" means that the essay contains lots of sentences with the similar length. It is boring. So more sentences varieties wanted.
"Sentence Length SD is high" means that the length of sentences changed so often. It is hard to read and breaks the smooth.
If you consider the essay as a tree, the Sentence Length is like those leaves. Too long or too short leaves will do harm to the beauty of the tree.
