Eating sweet foods produces acid in the mouth which can cause tooth decay High acid levels are measured by low pH values Describe the information below and discuss the implications for dental health You should write at least 150 words

The line graph illustrates acid level in mouth overtime after consuming sugary foods and the possibility of tooth decay occurrence. From the graph, it obvious that ph level lower than 5.5 is more likely to cause harmful effect on our tooth.

The given graph shows that ph level of all three sweet foods (honey, cane sugar, fruit sugar) is 7 at the moment they are eaten. After 5 minutes, foods that contain cane sugar become very acidic, with 3.5 ph value. The ph level for honey and fruit sugar are also dropped to 5 and 4 respectively, which are less acidic than that of cane sugar. After 15 minutes, honey becomes more alkalic and tooth decay is more unlikely to happen. However, cane sugar and fruit sugar remain under risk level at this moment.

Fruit sugar has a high possibility to cause tooth decay within 20 minutes after the food is eaten. After that, fruit sugar becomes more alkalic and surpass the danger level. Cane sugar takes longer to reach that state, around 30 minutes after consumption.

The figures imply that low ph level is more likely to cause tooth decay and foods made with honey and fruit sugar are better for dental health as they cause less decay.
