Analysing the graph it is possible to notice that the four countries of overseas students in Australia have in common periods of dramatic increase for what concerns Indonesia and Singapore and periods of fluctuation for what concerns instead Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Indonesia in fact, after having constantly raised until 1994, had a significant increase to almost 30 thousand students, with a small fall and an immediate final upward between 1998 and 2000.

Singapore instead, was static from 1982 to 1986 with a raise from the following years reaching 20 thousands of students.

About the other 2 countries analysed, they present these similarities: Hong Kong in the period 1982-1986 had a fixed situation until 1998 when the number of students started to fluctuate for the next 10 years and instead Malaysia that initially increased, remained constant from 1984 to 1994 and then started its period of fluctuation until 2000 with approximately 20 thousand students.
