Essay topics:

Write a letter to your friend who lives in another country and in your letter:
a. Invite him/her to a public event in your country.
b. Describe the public event
c. Explain about other plans you have for your friend when he/she will visit.

Hi Uloma,

How are you? I hope this letter meets you well. Our new yam festival is coming up on the 25th September and I'm inviting you to the ceremony. This is an opportunity to experience my culture like you have always wanted.

The new yam festival is an annual event that marks the beginning of the harvesting period in my country. On the first day of the celebration, every family harvests the biggest yam tuber in their farm. This yam is cooked by the mother of the house. The head of the family then prays over it, blesses every member of his family and the food is shared to everybody, including their visitors. Over the next three days, different music groups parade on the streets, singing and dancing. It is such a glamorous event.

I am also planning other activities for you during this period. Before the end of the event, we shall go to the lake where we will take a boat ride. You will also see other visitors from different countries. Oguta lake is one of the most popular places for tourists who come to Nigeria and do not be surprised if we meet people from your country there. Also I will take you to the Oka museum that you have always talked about. I bet you, you will relish every moment in my town.

I really hope you will be able to make it. See you soon.

All the best,
Chinedu.
