News stories on TV and in papers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words. What is your opinion about this?

Today, broadcasts accompany their news by relative pictures in an attempt to absorb more audiences. It is believed that these pictures are more effective than words. This will be proven by analyzing how pictures are more impressive and are not in need of translation.

For one, I believe that people are able to recall pictures even if they have seen them along ago. This is due to the fact that images are far more impressive. Take news about child labor as an example. Even thousand words would not signify the empathy to them compare to a picture which shows their difficulties. However, reading written stories take much more time. As this example shows images convey concepts faster, easier and more impressively.

In addition to this, picture is an international language and is not in need of translation when it is seen by foreigners. The result of this fact is that many international organizations such as WHO, United Nations, etc; for announcing a widespread phenomenon usually use pictures. For instance, an orange hand symbolizes this motto: “no violence against women”. These images are same all over the world and people with diverse level of education and different cultures could catch the concept similarly. However, words would not play this role.
As shown above, I believe strongly on the phrased verses says” a picture is worth than thousand words” and I think an appropriate picture couple to written news can act as a synthesizer. It is predicted news agencies are going to use this tool more and more in the future.
