Franchise benefits
The author of the reading and lecture both talk about a franchise, which is the kind of commercial licenses allowing those new traders to use its name and its products for identified rate from the total sales.
The reading passage provides three merits of using this pattern of investment and the lecture cast doubt on the author claims and provide three demerits.
First, the author of the reading posits that Franchise license would be beneficial to overcome the obstacles of starting new business such as dealing with honest supplier as well as the high cost required for running a new business. The lecture contradict this point directly. She believes that a finding of the recent study in this matter reveals that this kind of business is not effective enough. She states that owners of new business are forced to buy some specific products with a substantially expensive price comparing to their price in the market.
Second, while the reading passage asserts this kind of license will be effective in saving the money spent on advertisement, as the new business is still unknown. This argument is rebutted directly by the lecture. She claims that the sales rated which is roughly 6% of the sales is mostly high. Moreover, she points that the company will only advertise its products and the new trader will not obtain as benefits as the company achieves.
Finally, the author of the reading states that Franchise is much more secure than running a new business. He argues that the rate of establishing a new commercial project is relatively higher comparing to those with Franchise license. The lecture, on the other hand, challenged this point by stating that even though Franchise is less risky than starting new business, it is not secure enough. She put forth the idea that the article did not mention the third alternative option that is considered much more effective than those suggested by the author. She claims that the new trader can buy a previous business, which has already a name in the market, and its products has already familiar for most customers.
