Invasive species cause most of the worst problems in local ecosystems. The presence of a new species, particularly one at the top of the food chain, can destroy an ecosystem and cause numerous species to become extinct. One species that is causing numerous problems in America’s waterway is the aquatic zebra mussel.

Native to Russia, the zebra mussel has recently invaded the Great Lakes and many other American lakes and rivers. The mussels attach themselves to the bottoms of boats, a convenient method that lets them travel easily. They also often attach themselves to water pipes. This action results in clogged pipes, some of which are used to bring drinking water to cities. The blocked pipes cost the cities huge amounts of money to unblock. Also, zebra mussels reproduced so rapidly that they often smother the spawning grounds of various fish and other mussels, thereby prohibiting their growth.

Additionally, zebra mussels in North America have very few natural enemies, meaning that it is diffcult to eliminate them once they are established in a river or lake. Likewise, scientists have yet to discover an environmentally-safe way to kill zebra mussels. These two facts help contribute to the extremely rapid expansion of the zebra mussels. Should this expansion not be stopped, zebra mussels will soon be causing problems in virtually all of the country’s waterways.

Both reading passage and lecture are about the impact of speed cameras on public safety. The author of the reading believes that speed cameras will enhance public security. However, the lecturer is clearly opposed to the article's claims by saying that speed cameras create a lot of problems for public safety.

First of all, the author claims that the most momentous function of speed cameras is to force drivers drive slower and more carefully. However, the lecturer challenges this point by showing that speed cameras do not make the commuters to drive below the speed limit. She believes that the drivers will travel as fast as they like until they sight a police officer or a camera speed. That the commuters slow down suddenly force them slamming on their break, and it create a serious danger for behind cars.

Secondly, base on the fact that speed cameras are able to reduce the police officers' duties, the author believes that the officers have more time to investigate more serious crimes. In the response, the lecturer says that speed cameras are unable to replace the police officers. In fact, she argues that the speed cameras cannot detect some kind of traffic violent like someone carry drugs or guns while the police officers can. Therefore, the professor believes that the police officers response for more significant missions than the automatic cameras.

lastly, the reading indicates that speed cameras provide indisputable evidence like taking pictures or recording speeds with perfect accuracy. Nevertheless, the professor cast doubts upon the accuracy of speed cameras' clue. She thinks that automatic cameras are just machines, thus; it can make mistakes. Therefore, the evidence provided by the cameras is unconvincing.
