Population density

Essay topics:

Population density

One of the ways countries evaluate their growth rate is comparing the change of its popular density in a period of time. The popular density is the relation between the area of said country and its population. The next paragraphs will establish comparisons of those characteristics between three different territories during a time lapse of 11 years: the European Community, the United States and the Soviet Union.

The popular density of the European Union during the time lapse between 1989 and 2000 ranged between 142 and 148, being the largest when compared to the number of inhabitants per square kilometer of the United States and The Soviet Union, which ranged between 25-28 and 12-14, respectively.

Between 1989 and 2000, the European Community experimented a growth on its population of over 13 million people, the growth of the United States during that same period of time was a little less than 30 million people, and the Soviet Union augmented the number of its inhabitants in over 37 million people. It is obvious that the biggest population growth occured in the Soviet Union, and the smallest in the European Community.

It can be concluded that the popular density does not always go hand to hand with the growth rate of a country, as the Soviet Union showed the biggest growth and has the smallest popular density, Contrary to the case of the European Union, which had the lowest growth and has the most inhabitants per square kilometer.
