TPO-03 - Integrated Writing Task Rembrandt is the most famous of the seventeenth-century Dutch painters. However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rem

The given passage and the lecture here discusses one of the controversial paintings of famous Dutch painter Rembrandt. The passage here describes the points which concluded that the painting in question was not Rembrandt's work. On the other hand, the given lecture gives the reason to believe that the concerned painting belongs to Rembrandt.

According to the passage, the painting has grave inconsistency in terms of the clothing. The lady in the painting is wearing an ordinary hat, which is typical of the servants. At the same time, luxurious fur collar in the painting symbolizes the lady to be wealthy. The lecture opposes this fact, stating that the x-rays of painting clearly shows that fur collar in the painting was made after 100 years of the original painting to increase its value.

Also, according to the passage, the face of the painting is not well illuminated. The fur collar is creating a partial shadow on the face of the lady in the painting although it is well illuminated from below. Since Rembrandt is famous for the perfect representation of lights and shades, so this painting is not his work. The lecturer, however, disapproves this, by stating that the lady in the painting originally had a well illuminated face by a light colored collar.

Lastly, the passage here states that the painting is on a panel of several pieces of wood glued together, which is not typical of Rembrandt's paintings. The lecture, on the other hand, explains that the original painting is enlarged to increase its market value and make it look grand. Also, the wood used for the painting is same as of Rembrandt's other paintings.
