TPO-09 - Integrated Writing Task Car manufacturers and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. By far the most promising alternative source of energy for cars is the hy

The main topic of both the reading passage and the lecture is about the alternative source of energy for automobiles which is hydrogen-based fuel-cell engines. The reading material provides the benefits of hydrogen based fuel-cell engines whereas the lecture shows the drawbacks of it.

Firstly, the reading passages says that compare to internal-combustion engine, hydrogen is available due to natural gas and water. The lecture refutes the claim by saying that though hydrogen is present in our surroundings, it is a complex process to get it. As hydrogen is needed to be in liquid state for using, it goes through difficult technological process to obtain in the liquid form.

Secondly, the article claims that hydrogen-based fuel system would solve the pollution problems of our environment. However the lecturer opposes the point by saying that producing hydrogen itself will cause a lot of environmental pollution. She continues by saying that industries which will produce hydrogen will also produce extra coal and toxic gases which are harmful for the environment.

Finally, the reading passage says that hydrogen fuel-cell would be economically cheap for people. On the contrary, the lecturer claims that hydrogen fuel will be more expensave as it needs most expensive material to go under reaction which is platinum. Therefore, it will not lower the expense of general people to operate a fuel-cell engine.
