TPO-11 - Integrated Writing Task A recent study reveals that people especially young people are reading far less literature, novels, plays, and poems, than they used to. This is troubling because the trend has unfortunate effects for the reading public, for

The lecture and reading both are discussing the causes for decline in reading literature by younger generation. The professor claims that the decline in reading is not due to poor culture or different forms of entertainment but because of literature written these days and provides three points to explain her assumption.

To begin with, the professor argues that there may be decline in reading literature but not in general reading. People are more tend to read books of science and technology. These are also highly qualitative and do provoke imagination like that of novels. On the other hand, the writer mentions that people don't read any kind of books and the culture is declining.

In addition, the lecturer posits that there is not decrease in cultural value but a change in the values. The other forms of entertainment such as music are equally beneficial to the public. Conversely, the author contends that people are more inclined towards poor forms of entertainment which is responsible for cultural derailment.

Finally, the speaker claims that today's literature is not read by younger generations which is not there fault, instead, the author is responsible for writing such materials that not only younger but also older generation would not read. The literature quality is highly declined. The writer counters this view and states that good literature is being written and they do not get enough support from the publisher as well as the readers. This decline is due to low quality of the readers and not due to authors.
