In the REading passage, the author claims that the zebra mussel, a shelfish species living in freshwater, presentes serious problems for the freshwater fishes by pointing out three reasons od support. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in the text and stataes that indeed, there are some solutions to control the spreading the zebra mussel population. He points out some evidence to refute the ideas mentioned in the reading.
At first, the author argues that having conveyed the zebra mussle by the ships, they assist spreading() its population across new rigions in the United states. The lecturer brings up the fact that it is true since the ships' routs are passing through the freshwater. Actually, the fresh water is the most favorable envirnoment for reproducing the sebra mussle. Consequently, if they change their path to the ocean, the zebra mussle will not spread since they cannot survive in salt water; thus, they become enable to colonize in other areas.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that the zebra mussle population can enormously increasine due to absence of any predator. On the other hand, the professor disputes this point by clarifying the fact that although, it is true at the begining of their colonization, there are some other species which are seeking to find new food resourses. For instance, the zibra mussle can be accounted as good food for birds. Therefore, they cannot be dominate in their new habitat for a long time.
Finally, the author asserts that the zebra mussle causes a substantial drop in the overl fish population. The lecturer, though, dismisses this idea by subscribing the fact that the decline occur in the populatin of plankton eaters fish. As a matter of fact, the zebra mussel produces nutritions in their habitat which provides suitable environment for nurishing kind of other fish speacies in the bottom of water.
