TPO49 Integrated Writing

The speaker and the writer hold divergent attitude towards humpbacks use stars to navigate and migrate long distances. Through relevant reasons and examples, the professor extensively opposes the content in the article.

Frist, the author brings up humpback is intelligent enough to utilize the stars. To refute this point, the lecturer emphasizes that there is no actual connection between intelligence and star navigation. He cites the animal, which also uses the star to navigate but has an average intelligence to illustrate his point, which contradicts the assumption in the passage. He further adds that the humpback is born with the ability to navigate. It is an incidence.

Second, the writer advocates that because humpbacks use straight lines to migrate so they orient themselves by the external force such as the star, and they swim in the ocean without the landmark to guide them except the star, however, as is rebutted by the speaker earth magnetic field plays a role in their navigation. Their body has biomagnetic field that is sensitive to the magnetic field. When they sense the earth magnetic field, they can navigate, which objects to what the passage suggests.

Third, opposing the writer’s belief that the spy-hopping can indicate the humpback is looking at the star, the professor contends that sharks also demonstrate spy-hopping and they neither migrate nor look for stars. Furthermore, humpback also does spy-hopping in the daytime which has no star at all. Thus,spy-hopping can't support the hypothesis that humpback uses star to navigate and migrate long distances, which completely rejects the viewpoint shown in the passage.
