Human being communicate by speaking, writing, reading, sign language even with eyes specially in case of lovers. In today's world it's necessary to know reading and writing skills than past because this shows that you are educated, intelligent and this is helpful every where you go around the world. That's why, ability to read and write is more important now than before.
First reason I believe that ability to read and write is more important now is that by knowing it, person will be having no trouble while he is on a tour or outside his own country. Where he is not able to communicate with people in that country by talk only. For example when a person lost while driving to another place and he don't know where to go for his destination. He can get directions to his way through reading the sigh boards on the road or he can asks the people in that country by writing(because of difference in accent) his thought to tell them what he wants.
Another reason I think reading and writing ability is more important now is that by knowing this people can read the warning and precautions written on the packaging of everything we use in our daily life. For example if we know reading we know how to take a medication, or use a appliance or expiration dates of food items written on the back of the packing of products. This prevents poisoning and damage to you or your family member. So it can save life of someone by reading this.
In addition to read warning by knowing this skills of reading and writing you can share your own thoughts and understand others. For instance, there are lots of books, novels, magazines, news papers, article etc. that are famous around the world because by this people can share there thoughts, activities and other things happening around them or with someone.
In past, reading and writing was not important because most of them were illiterate. They rarely visit to any foreign country. They don't read any kind of books, magazines or novels. So it was not important for them to read and write.
In conclusion, there are many reason why ability to read and write is more important now. Person who knows this skills will easily communicate by writing his thoughts to other while on a visit to a foreign country. We can read warnings written over the packaging or any where we go.Also, he can share or gain others thoughts by reading and writing in the form of books, papers, novels etc.
