Because as they made bigger groups meeting their needs became easier and it was the result of more cooperating. With such a groups they did less and gain more advantages. As the groups created the need of having a leader become more touchable. A leader with high ability in controlling the group for reaching its aims and this only is possible for a leader to be a good listener moreover than any other abilities.
Firstly the most important concept of being a good listener for leader appears when a group wants to promote rapidly and be the best because a good leader needs to get feedbacks from the other partners and this is really important for the group because he can evaluate the situation of the group in a specific time and select the best action with these consideration and information.
After that a leader always must consider the probability of exposing the brilliant ideas which mentioned by the ordinary people of the group which can have a great influence on the group. For example a farmer in a rural group may be has a brilliant idea about how to improve a special way for increasing in amount of specific seeds, So if the leader listen to him and try to expose this idea to all other farmers for doing the same, consequently in that group the amount of harvesting in that special seed will increase and this is consider as a good effect of being a good listener for the leader.
Also always brain storming in a group is better than a single person thinking because in a group you will see lots of controversial opinion and it makes the situation better to think bigger and the result is also better and comprehensive.
