Nowdays people attend colleges or universities for many different reasons. Some young students try their best to study in the top universities so their degrees can be accepted by many big companies and corporations. Other students are just very curious and motivated by the ocean of knowledge. Some employees want to succeed in climbing the position ladder so they come to extra classes that are about their speciality. Some travelers participate in language classes so they won't be cheated by any native sellers. In my own opinion, people go to study for only one universal reason that is knowledge can transform and make people become better. Obviously, people want to be better and seek for perfectness every single day.

In Korean, more and more children study very hard for the College Scholastic Ability Test. Typically, they study about 14 hours per day and they do massive amounts of homework. According to online asia times website, South Korean students took gravely an exam that will determine if they can get into big universities like Seoul National University, Korea University or Yonsei university (SKY for short). Getting into one of these institutions is considered a South Korean student's crowning life achievement. Not only will successful students have the best academic pedigree in the country, they will also have a strong alumni network that tends to be biased in hiring and mentoring grads from their alma mater. Even their currency as a marriage partner increases as a SKY graduate. However, i think because of the fact that intensity and pressure hang in the air during the CSAT day, the true reason of attending SKY is faded. Koreans study exhaustedly to attend medicine school in order to be better in medicine to cure a patient or military school in order to be stronger to protect their territory. Colleges and universities are not made for people come to get degrees and certificates. They are only the places for people to become better.

Some job interview requires some diplomas not because the owner has never seen the diplomas before but he want to check if the candidate is good enough. Pressure, materialistic civilization, money problem and a lot of thing has faded the true reason of study in schools, colleges and universities. But the true reason itself is the same.

In conclusion, i think that everyone should try to be better everyday. So what we can do is to study not only in colleges or universities but everywhere and everytime.

As for a TOEFL essay, you need to write it very clearly in half an hour. You need to have a big picture or pattern in your mind before you write the essay. After i read your essay, i didn't get exactly the reasons why people go to universities. You may try this way:

first paragrah: Introcuction to your ideas. you can put two or three reasons here why people go university like: 1. for degree 2.better employment opportunities 3.better future. These are just examples. you can put any reasons you want to.

2-4th paragraph: you need to use specific examples to suppor your reasons. I saw you write them well in your essay. but those examples should be clear to support the reasons.

The last paragrah is conclusion part. This is not the place to have some new ideas but it is to summurize what you have written.

In Korea, more and more high school students study very hard to attend college or university. In order to achieve that, typically, they study 14 hours per day and they do massive amounts of homework. What are the reasons that make them try their best to receive a university education ? Do they attend university just in pursuit of a paper-made diploma ? Different people have different answers to this question. I think there are three most common reasons are to prepare for a career, to have new experiences and to increase the knowledge of their speciality and the wonderful world aroung them.

First of all, because of the recent economic depression, the job market becomes more and more competitive and even a simple job or low position will attract hundreds of candidates to apply for it. Therefore, only those who are educated and have good skill can have a good work. So, we should attend university or college because they provide us all the tools we need.

Second, students also go to college or university to have new experiences. For example , to myself, i am now studying abroad and my friends are from everywhere around the worlds so i have experienced many different cultures from different countries . Most of my friends are Koreans. They are not really friendly at first but when you get to know them, they are really nice and wonderful. My roommate is American. He is independent,hard-working and he reminds me of all the articles in the internet about typical Americans, smart and dynamic people. In addition, i often play football with one boy that comes from Nigeria . He plays soccer very well and he is very funny. I wonder myself if racist people have any mental problem because racist people hate African just because of their color skin but they don't realize that black people are so cool and even cooler than some white-skin racist people.

The third reason for attending a college is to increase knowledge because knowledge can help us achieve our goal and make our dreams come true. Doctors and physicians use knowledge that they learnt from medicine schools to save million of lives. Computer scientists and programmers use knowledge that they learnt from technology institutes to create a lot of modern hardwares and softwares that transform this world. And there are still so many amazing stories about what people with knowledge can do. So what are you waiting for ? Let's be motivated by the ocean of knowledge and go to study everytime and everywhere.

In today's society, people need more knowledge and skills to be adapted. The university and college study is a good way to achieve this.

For TOEFL essays, don't try to write something like a philosophy paper. Found out two or three reasons for the topic and support those reasons and give conclusion. Keep it simple. try read those sample essays.
