Argument Topic: "The following is taken from a memo from the advertising director of the Super Screen Movie Production Company. "According to a recent report from our marketing department, during the past year, fewer people attended Super Screen-produced movies than in any other year. And yet the percentage of positive reviews by movie reviewers about specific Super Screen movies actually increased during the past year. Clearly, the contents of these reviews are not reaching enough of our prospective viewers. Thus, the problem lies not with the quality of our movies but with the public's lack of awareness that movies of good quality are available. Super Screen should therefore allocate a greater share of its budget next year to reaching the public through advertising."

Write a response in which you discuss what questions would need to be answered in order to decide whether the recommendation and the argument on which it is based are reasonable. Be sure to explain how the answers to these questions would help to evaluate the recommendation.

Author is suggesting that Super Screen production house should increase its budget in advertising in order to create awareness about the movies released by the production house. He has given a survey report which states that the movie was attented by fewer people last year but there is increase in the number of postitive reviews compared to last year. He has suggested a good way to increase the number of viewers but there are some flaws in this argument.

Author has mentioned that according to the recent report, during past year fewer people attended the movie producd by Super Screen. He has mentioned the term "fewer" which does not include any number. This pertains to ambiguitiy in the data he has mentioned. Also he has not mentioned anywhere the number of movies released in past yaer. It is possible that lesser number of are released last year compared to other years. He could have substantiated this argument by providing the statistics of number of movies released and number of people attending the movies. This could give a clearer picture of the current scenario.

Secondly he has mentioned that the positive reviews for the movies has been increased and in the very next line he is concluding that the content of the movies are not reaching people. If there is increase in number of reviews then it directly tells us that people are watching movies. He is assuming that people are not watching movie on the basis of reveiws received. It might be possible that people are watching movies but are not giving reviews due to lack of the media attention to that movie or apathy in writing a review. He should have mentioned the number of people attending the movie and number of reviews received and then find out the other aspects which are preventing the viewers to reveiw the movie.

Author has reached to the conclusion without a robust statistical data and has adviced the production house to increase the budget for advertising. This conclusion is abstract and misleading as he has not considered other factors which might affect the reduction in the number of people attending the movie. He should consider the data with more sepicifications like number of movies released, number of people attending the movie, time at which the movie was released and many other factors. So according to me the recommendation provided by author is not reasonable.
