Claim: Many problems of modern society cannot be solved by laws and the legal system.
Reason: Laws cannot change what is in people's hearts or minds.
Laws are made for citizens' welfare and this welfare includes lots of diverse subjects like from nations' security to family problems. I give my partial agreement towards claim and reason provided.
Firstly, What laws are? In simple words - a set of protocols, which includes numerous do's and dont's. Why laws are made? - For betterment of nations' citizens. This shows basic requirement of laws are coming nothing but from peoples' need. For example - drive through right lane on highway, this is a law passed by US congress. It is very simple to understand that this law is indeed requirement of citizens for convenient transportation. So my point here is to explain laws are not just made for solving social issues or to change people's mind.
Lets take some another example, if goverment is trying to impose a ban on Smoking for all age groups. What will be the reaction from people you think would be? Some of them will welcome this law while rest will definitely oppose it. So this law would not be as effective to change someones heart.
Any goverment, on the planet earth, cannot make laws against all social problems. Because, what I think, laws should be made in such way that, it will be effective against cause of social problems. Consider again the example of smoking ban law, here if law made like school should conduct events, workshops against smoking can lead to more heathier future generation. So in that case requirement of such prohibition laws will be no more.
Even if laws are made against social problems, some of us will not follow it. And even by force one may follow laws but that will be against his/her own will, here the result of law will be deleterious. Which may further create number of other problems. Looking at history, we can deudce the fact that many times poeple have came togehter to oppose certain laws in their nation. So this example weaken the given claim.
"Prevention is better than cure". So according me if laws are against social problems, that may not be as effective as it should be. That's why I do not agree with given claim.
