The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The given bar chart illustrates four means of products’ transportation used during the period from 1974 to 2002 in Great Britain.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is apparent that the majority of goods are transported by the road modes of transport and the pipelines tend to be the less used in transportation purposes. With the passage of twenty years between 1974 and 1994 the total turnover of goods transmitted by pipelines was moderately increased approximately from 5 to almost 22 million tones and then reached a plateau throughout the remaining part of the period.
The road service appears not to follow this pattern. The total number of transported goods was constantly fluctuating from 1974 to 1982 it was hovering around 70 million tones. What follows is different as it experienced sharp growth by more than 10 million tones by the end of 1990, after that took a nosedive by 2-3 million tones and then started to rise moderately, almost reaching 100 million in 2002.
The water vehicles’ utilization was quite contrary to the railway counterparts. Until 1978 they have a striking similarity in total turnover of goods transported, totaling approximately to 40 million tons per each, but after that, we notice the tremendous rise in the goods transported by water means and dramatical decline in rail transport turnover. Throughout the remaining years, the quantity of rail transported products was fluctuating between 30 and 40 million tons, whereas water transportation decreased its turn to 50 million tons in 1998 and then increased dramatically up to 65 million tons.
