The charts illustrate the average proportion of how much residents in Japan and Malaysia spent on housing, transport, food, health care and other goods and services in 2010.
Overall, health care accounted for the least percentage of the income of inhabitants in both countries. In addition, Japanese used most of their money for other foods and services while the largest figure for Malaysian was spent on housing.
In Japan, people spent 29% of their money on other foods and services, comparing with 26% in Malaysia. However, the proportion of housing in Malaysia was higher than that in Japan, at 34% and 21% respectively. Likewise, standing at 27%, Malaysian's spending on food was also slightly higher than that of Japanese, at 24%.
Expenditures on modes of transportation and accommodation were by far lowest of five items. Specifically, the amount of transport and health care used in Japan was 20% and 6% respectively. However, the figures for Malaysia were even much lower with just half of the numbers in Japan.
