You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

Write a letter to this friend. In your letter:

say why he/she would not enjoy going to college

explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her

suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her

Dear John,

How are you doing? I hope that you are doing well. Congratulations on graduating high school! I am sure that you are excited and perhaps somewhat anxious about the path forward. I'm writing in response to your letter and guiding you on whether you should enroll in college or search for employment opportunities.

I firmly believe that you should opt for exploring job opportunities as it is more beneficial in long-term college. Tuition costs have skyrocketed over the past few years, and the benefit of attending college is dwarfed by the student-debt that you will endure if you decide to enroll in college. Moreover, the college curriculum is more inclined towards theory, and you might find it slow-paced. As I personally know you, you would not enjoy this. Instead, it would be a better idea to build your skills by studying online-courses published by top-universities online. So, you can develop your skills at your pace without the financial burden of attending college.

Additionally, getting a job will accelerate your career growth as you would get more exposure and gain some practical skills like - time management, task delegation, meeting deadlines, and working in a team. I would recommend working at a software startup because they offer better learning opportunities, and are more suited towards younger professionals like yourself.

I have complete confidence in your abilities, and I am sure that you will have a successful career regardless of which path you choose.

I hope my suggestion would help you decide what is best for you.

Your friend,

Lo Li
