Asteroids are large space objects made of rock and ice. There are hundreds of thousands of asteroids in our solar system. Though we often hear ideas about establishing colonies of humans to live and work on our Moon or our neighboring planet, Mars, some t

In view of the reading, the author enumerates possibility of establishing colonies of humans to live and work on the asteroids by pointing out 3 reasons of support. Finding the statements arguable, the lecturer casts doubt on the claim made by the article and count it weak. Then, presents a piece of evidence in contrary.

At first, the author argues that so low is the gravity on these small objects that can make the land safer than landing on the planet like Mars or Moon since there is no need to strong force to pull the spaceship on the surface of the asteroid. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that this is not the whole story. Not only can low gravity has obnoxious effect on creating low-density muscles but also it has effect on loss of bone density.

In addition, the reading passage holds the view that these asteroids are usually rich in valuable metal like gold and platinum which have a scarce amount on the Earth. Considering their mining can help the colonist or the businesses sponsorship to provide their costs. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes this point by clarifying the fact that the cost of the sponsorship and also transporting this amount of material is too high and also the more increase the supply, the less market price can have.

Finally, the author asserts easy to arrive at the asteroids as the last point for supporting the more possibility of create colonies on them, in comparison to other near planets. The lecturer, though, dismisses it by elucidating that although it is easy to reach, it is or easy to return since their orbital sometimes settle near the Earth but it can change during the time and it could be possible to settle much farther away from the Earth when the colonist decides to return. Therefore, colonization on asteroids are not as much easy as it seems at first glance.
