Both the author and lecturer offer two opposing views on the benefits of a 10-hour-a-day, 4-day workweek. While the reading part lists three virtues of this schedule for both employers and workers, the professor counters these specific points and presents some clues to call in the question for the information in the passage.

First of all, the article mentions that this plan will alleviate some considerable costs such as the gas expenses for the average employee. On the other hand, the instructor dismisses the validity of this cue. As she states, in a condition which an employee drives an average of 30-mile to work, by one day off, he will be able to save 15 up to 20 dollars a week. This savage will be 850 dollars a year. This final amount of the money is not sufficient amount of earn to justify this great alteration.

Next, the lecturer refutes that this program will lower the operating costs of most businesses; meanwhile, this assertion is posited by the passage. Based on the professor declaration, this assumption is misguiding since with one less working day the company will lose 20 percent of its business. Besides, two additional hours a day are at the late in the evening, when the majority of the consumers have been at home and reluctance to make purchases. As a result, this small amount of saving does not overweigh the 20 percent loss of the business.

Finally, the text assumes that the one extra off day will enhance the workers overall quality of life while they are capable of spending more span with their family members. On the contrary, the professor challenges the validity of this assertion. As she expounds, this plan does not add the extra free day to employees' week inasmuch as if they possess a young kid, they will need to find a particular care center where is opened till late caring for their kids. This condition is an arduous and stressful situation. Moreover, if their children are mature enough to go to the schools, they cannot spend their free time with them, as their kids are in the school for half of their free day.
