Essay topics:

Scientists are considering the possibility of sending humans to Mars in the coming decades. Although there have been successful manned missions to the Moon in the 1960s and 1970s, Mars is 150 times further away from Earth than the Moon is. Thus the project of sending humans to Mars would require solving an array of problems the Moon missions did not have to face.

One problem is that a round-trip to Mars and back is likely to take at least two years. The trip to the Moon lasted only a few days, and it was easy to bring enough supplies of food, water, and oxygen; but the cargo capacity of space vehicles is too limited to put on board the food, water, and oxygen required by a crew for a period of two years. Without those essentials, though, a Mars mission is impossible.

A second problem is that astronauts on the Mars mission would be in the zero-gravity environment of space for many months at a time. Spending a long time in the zero-gravity environment has negative effects on the human body, such as decreased muscle mass and lower bone density. Over the course of a two-year mission, the effects would be so severe, they would make it impossible for humans to make the trip without experiencing grave medical problems.

Finally, astronauts on a mission to Mars would be exposed to dangerous levels of space radiation, much of which comes in the form of charged particles emitted by the Sun. Earth's magnetic field, which normally protects us from dangerous solar radiation, would not be able to protect a spaceship traveling in interplanetary space. Constructing a shield that would protect the whole spaceship from space radiation is at present impossible because it would add too much weight to the ship.

In this set of material, the writer strongly postulates that sending human astronauts to Mars pose some challenges unlike the moon, and provides three problems to endorse its idea. On the other hand, the speaker mentions that though trip to the mars would be challenging, challenges can be overcome; and gainsays search of it.
First and foremost, the writer begins by asserting that spacecraft to Mars will take at least 2 years, therefore it is preposterous to carry all the food , oxygen, and water supply for such a long time. The lecturer dismisses this point by positioning that food can be grown and cultivates inside the spacecraft using hydroponic technique. this technique will enable the spacecraft to grow crops within small space. Not only they can recycle the waster water and collect the water for drinking purpose, but also humans will get fresh air by this way. Therefore, this problem could be solved.
Furthermore, the lecturer posits that until now several space station were sent to the space before this trip to the mars, hence there is a solution to manage the zero-gravity problem that was learnt from previous experiences. He exemplify that using vitamins such as Calcium will reduce the bone density problem, and doing exercise would solve the muscle mass from declining. These claims clearly refutes the writer's implication that astronuats in the mars have to overcome the problem of muscle mass and bone density reduction in zero gravity environment of Mars.
Ultimately, the writer wraps its arguments by declaring that humans in the mars are exposed to the dangerous sun radiation and they cannot use any heavy shield to prevent themselves. Not surprisingly, the speaker takes an issue with this by contending that astronauts are not continuously exposed to the dangerous radiations. Though it does happen but it happens rarely, astronauts can detect that radiation using light equipment and prevent them from these rays by staying inside the shield and once radiation are overpass then they can come outside the shield. This method could solve the radiation problem.
