In response to such concern, Mars has been selected as a suitable candidate. The good news is that astronomers and scientists have also succeeded in finding some ideal characteristics for Mars to be humanity’s next habitat.To start, there is a high possibility that Mars contains liquid water, which is an essential resource for all living things. To detect the presence of water, Mars Express Mission used radar to send electromagnetic waves and analyzed the soil inside the south and the north pole of Mars that are filled with large ice caps. Shortly afterward, the radar sent back a different colored wave. Since different colored waves mean different elements, scientists believe that it could be a sign of liquid water.Secondly, life on Earth may be able to endure the Martian atmosphere. To be specific, scientists asserted that life is possible on Mars after discovering microbes living in the harshest environment on Earth. Microbes make a living in the valleys of Antarctica, which has a similar environment to the extremely cold and dry surface of Mars. Antarctica also receives high ultraviolet radiation, another similarity to the Martian atmosphere, which lacks a sufficient protective magnetic field. With these being considered, it may seem possible for human beings to survive the Martian conditions in the near future.Lastly, Curiosity rover (NASA's Mars Exploration Program) has detected traces of methane gas in the Martian atmosphere. It was a sensation when Curiosity found 0.4 parts per billion level of methane in 2012 and discovered that the amount increased up to 7 parts per billion in 2014. This strongly supported the fact that there are methane emissions on Mars. As a result, considering that methane is a valuable resource for people to survive, such a discovery has sustained the claim that Mars will become the next home for humanity.Write your response here
The passage and the lecture are both about possibility to live on mars. While, the reading discuss three points that why Mars could be next habitat for humanity. The lecturer refutes all the claims made in the reading by providing several; reasons.Firstly, according to the reading possibility of water is high on mars, it further provided some information about several missions done on land of mars which gave support to the statement that mars have water on it. However, the lecturer disputes this point. He states that such analysis do not prove the existence of water. Furthermore, he mentions that the temperature of earth is warm which keep water in its liquid form, whereas, the temperature at mars is extreme cold and water can no be present in its liquid form there.secondly, the reading states that scientist has discovered that many microbes live inside very harsh conditions on earth which are similar in many ways like in receiving ultra violet rays, other martian atmosphere. Therefore, reading claims that it is possible for humans to survive on mars. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. He argues that human body is too weak and vulnerable. Therefore, if it is exposed in harsh climate conditions it won't be able to tolerate that kind of environment.Finally, the reading claims that one program of NASA has discovered presence of methane in mars atmosphere. Furthermore, it claims that because methane i a valuable resource for humans therefore, it will be easy to survive their. On the other hand, the lecturer believes that this data is not reliable and could be present due to some malfunction. He further added that a complete survey of mars has been done and on its whole survey no trace of methane was found.In conclusion, although the reading is claiming that mars could be inhibited by humans in future, the lecturer effectively challenged the passage.
