TOEFL integrated writing: Chaco housing

The reading passage and listenning passage both discuss about usage of the great houses of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico in the twelfth century A.D. The author brings up three theories about he argument. However, the lecturer casts doubt on these theories and provides some reasons.

First of all, the author says about first theory which explains that the structures of Chaco people used residentially. Nevertheless, the lecturer opposes this claim by explaining that altough, the outside of buildings were seemed similar to structures of Southwest communities, inside of buildings were very different of them. The lecturer, on the other hand, points out that there were not enough fire place for these structures. Thus, he beleives that the structures were not for residential usage.

In the second place, the author mentions the second theory which is claims that the Chaco structures used for food supply storage. By contrast, the lecturer refutes this claim by mentioning that the structures did not contain enough container for storage of food supply. This is a good standpoint to refute author's claim.

Finally, the author states the third theory which is points out that the house used for ceremonial centers. However, the lecturer opposes this point by explaining that the pots were trash of construction servers and all the metarials not used up instead they were trash.
