TOEFL T P O 12 Integrated Writing Task

Unlike the passage, which supports the claim of full-length portrait was related to the famous English novelist Jane Austen. The speaker disagrees with all claims made in the passage and provides details. He says that the evidence of linking the claims to Jane Austen portrait is not convincing, as it might be loosely connected to one of her relatives.

First of all, the article states that Austen's family authorized the use of this portrait in en edition of some of her letters, which confirms that this teenage girl portrait is for her. However, the professor opposes this claim by mentioning that her family has authorized the use of the portrait after seventy years of Austen's death. Therefore, they had never seen her and no one could have know how she looked like.

Secondly, the speaker disagrees with the claim that this teenage girl portrait looks like Cassandra's portrait, which mentioned in the article. The speaker says that the resemblance was extended very large between her family. He says that she had a lot of females and cousins in the same age. Furthermore, most of experts believe that this portrait belongs to one of her distance niece called Marry Comban.

Lastly, the speaker opposes that claim that the style of the painting is the same as Ozias Humphry, who was a famous painter at this time. The professor says that they have found a black campaign as a stamp on the back of the portrait. This black campaign mentions that the material of the portrait was sold by someone called William Leg. Moreover, the evidence showed that William did not sell material while Austen was a teenager. William started selling this material when Austen was twenty seven years, which confirms that this portrait for someone older than Austen.
