TOEFL T P O 44 - Integrated Writing Task

Both essay and lecture are about the presence of an ancient silver coin in the Maine site of America with brought by a European called Norse. The author believes that this evidence is a historical fake object which had intentionally placed to mislead scholars. On the other hand, lecturer disagrees with his idea. He provides three reasons which show the coin wasn't fake.
First of all, the writer of the article mentions that the great distance between the Maine site of America and Norse settlement is a reason shows that the existence of this coin wasn't possible. The lecturer, however, challenges this claim by mentioning that beside coins, there were other objects at Maine site and, Americans might have traveled and brought these merchandises.
Second, the author implies that there hadn't been other coins in the Maine site. Therefore, he feels that the coin isn't enough evidence to conclude. In contrast, the lecturer rebuts this concept. He states that Europe travelers might take the rest of coins back to their countries and, only this coin had remained in America.
Third, the writer points out that this coin didn't have inherent value in America, so it had been useless for Americans. The lecturer tors this idea either. He mentions that although these coins weren't used as money in America archaic society, these silver materials were employed as a mediate to exchange with jewelry such as neckless, etc. Moreover, Americans used these coins to trade with European.
