The reading and the lecture discuss the accuracy of chevalier memoir wich he described his adventures and his glamorous life.

Firstly, the author point out that the chevalier was poor that’s why he borrowed a money, while the lecturer statues that borrowing money is not necessary a signe of poverty and argues by saying that the chevalier was a fan of parties and grumbling and maybe that was the reason for asking money and if he selled one of his proprieties it took time take time to get money.

Secondly, the author believes that it is impossible that the chevalier can keep in memory a long conversation like he did with his conversation with Voltaire and it is for sure that he missed or added an important information, in contrast the lecturer mentiones that the chevalier wrote a notes from this conversation in the same night and used it as reference when he wrote the memoir.

Thirdly, the author statues that the chevalier’s story about escaping from jail is not accurate and abuts the fact that the chevalier made a hole in the ceiling, he claims that the chevalier benefited from a bribe because he has a good relationships in political field. In other hand the lecturer states that the chevalier wrote the truth because after a few months after his escape the jail fixed some issues in jail ceiling and that proves that the chevalier escape.
