The reading passage and the lecture discuss this fascinating topic, commercial fossil collector, buying and selling fossils is have benefits or disadvantages. The article claims that commercial fossil collector sold fossils to privet ownership for more money are bad for development in science and the general public, to support he provides three reasons for this. The lecture cast has serious doubt above the claim made in the article, according to the professor its have more benefits the negative one it is good for science and public.
First of all, The author of the passage said that fossil collectors sold to the private collectors and public are not allowed to view their collection this can lead to public uninterest for fossil which is bad. This point is challenged by the professor she states that selling fossils to the commercial market is benefit people because they do lots of exploration which in result fossil available for purchases, so the low-level public institution can buy it.
Secondly, The reading passage states that commercial fossil collectors sell to private collectors which lead to scientists not get access to important fossil thereby miss out on potentially crucial discoveries about extinct life forms. This point rebuts by the professor she states that before selling the fossils it need to scientifically identify and this done by details examination and series of test by scientists so even if fossil goes to private collectors they first check by scientists in this way scientists do not miss any important information.
Finally, The article states that commercial fossil collectors are untrained or uninterested in carrying out the careful fieldwork and documentation that reveal the most about animal life in the past. The lecture states that even though commercial fossil collectors destroy some of the valuable information but we get some information because of University cannot afford more fossil collectors so there will be some side which not discover so it better to have some information with commercial fossil collectors than not discover fossil.
In summary, while both reading passage and lecture puts some interesting fact about commercial fossil collector but significant amount of fact support that there is no clear reason that commercial fossil collector is less benefit for scientist and general public Therefore reading passage failed to justify.
