According to the reading passage, salvage logging means removing dead tress from forest fire and strong storm areas. That practice beneficial to recovery from a damaged forest and to the economy. Whereas, according to the lecture, salvage logging are short term beneficial but detrimental impact in future. The lecturer contradicts to the each points made in the article.
Firstly, the lecturer refutes the first reason of the reading passage that removing dead trees provides larger and fresh growth of trees. He mentions that clean the dead trees from the forest not necessary that rapid trees growth. In fact, decomposition of trees give enriched soil which is help to natural growth of future generation trees.
Secondly, the lecturer also opposes the second idea made in the article that dead trees allure the insect population which harms to trees growth. The salvage logging helps to remove dead trees and less chance to insect habitat. He explains that increase insect population such as spruce bark beetle live in 100 year without harm to any trees and also dead trees use by bird and other insect as food. It contributes healthy environment and food for insect.
Lastly, the article emphasizes that salvage logging has economic benefit by using damage wood and also provides job for local people. In contrast with this, the lecturer says that salvage logging practice not gain the high profit because of larger weight of wood transportation need the helicopter which is expensive transportation. Besides, job is temporary and suitable for outside people which are trained and have experience than local people.
