TPO-17

The article states that the number of birds in the United States will decline due to the steady growth of human population, increased in agriculture, and pesticide. The passage provides three reasons of support. However, the professor says that what the arguments used to support the passage claims are unconvincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the passage claims that the birds' natural habitats will decrease with the expansion of humans population and settlements. The professor refutes this point by stating that it's true that urban growth has been had for some types of birds, but urban cities provide a better and large habitat for other types of birds, such as; pigeons and falcons. Therefore, it's not going to be the story of decline birds population in future. Some population may shrink, but others will grow.

Second, the author posits that the growth of agriculture will also result in the future destruction of bird habitats. However, the professor explains that the truth is, is the Unites States, less and less land for being used to agriculture every year. The introduction of new, more productive varieties of crops. Therefore, there is no need to destroy wildness lands.

Third, the passage states that the use of chemical pesticides contributes to the decline of birds. In contrast, the professor says that it's true the traditional pesticides have contributed to declining in birds population, but not in the future. People nowadays are much aware for traditional pesticides, two changes have occurred; first, new and much less toxic pesticide have been developed. Second, develops a pest resistance crops, which is designed to be unattractive to pests, reduce the need for chemical pesticides, and the pest resistance crops do not harm the birds at all.
