The article and the lecture are both contradicting each other, in terms of cultivating genetically modified trees. More specifically, the author discusses three theories that prove the genetically modified trees would be beneficial to grow. However, the lecturer casts doubt about the hypothesis presented in the lecture and provides some theories to refute them.

According to the article, the professor gives an example of genetically planted trees in Hawai, that these trees are designed to be harder than natural trees so that they can survive longer. Nevertheless, the speaker negates this argument in the article. Furthermore, she declares that genetically modified plants are resistant to one particular condition, whereas the natural plants are genetically diverse to any given situation. Therefore, genetically modified plants cannot survive and died out all the plants if they expose to new conditions. On the other side, some species of the wild plant will be survived even if some of them died out. Thus, this theory has some serious consequences.

Moreover, another debate highlights the economical benefits to the farmer by cultivating genetically modified plants. Nevertheless, the professor rebuts this by asserting that this technology, in fact, would be costlier to farmers because these seeds are very costly to buy from the company, and on top of that, farmers are not allowed to grow seeds that they collect from their farmlands unless they pay a charge to companies. Therefore, it is not a cost-effective technology for them.

Finally, the text explains that genetically modified trees can save endangered native trees as they can grow faster than the normal wild trees, and thereby, these trees can be fulfilled the demand for wood in many areas. On the contrary, the penman undermines this point and describes that genetically modified trees in a real scenario, create more damage to the natural trees since they grow aggressively in the area whereby they complete for the natural resources such as sunlight and water to the trees which are already growing in that area for a long time. Hence, they can eliminate the wild trees in a very short time.
