In this set materials, the reading passage state that scientists introduce 3 theorise for declining the yellow cedar trees which are common in northwestern North America. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading points by providing different reasons (and examples).

First of all, the reading indicates that some insect such as cedar bark beetle-caused some damage to the trees and kill them. In contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that the healthy yellow cedar has higher ability to resist from insect rather than another tree. Therefore, if the yellow cedar becomes healthy, it could produce some chemical liquid that it has poisoned and kill insects. Hence, this the yellow cedar become unhealthy and then some insect attack the old and already damaged yellow cedars and kill them.

Second, the reading argues that some bears attack to trees for using sweet content as food, and they kill the tree; conversely, what the lecturer believes is different. He points that that yellow cedars are expanded over a vast area and some islands and all parts of these areas especially the islands are not the habitat of brown bears. But the tree's population is declining in these areas too, so the brown bear is not the main reason for yellow cedars' die.

Finally, according to the reading climate change was another reason for declining the yellow cedar. However, the speaker believes that we can see the tree that lives in higher elevate that the weather is colder than the lower elevate more trees died than lover elevate
