First of all, the article mentions to the convenient transportation of mussel just by the ballast water of ships as the main reason of the unstoppable cause of invasion separation. However, the instructor casts doubt on the accuracy of this claim. As he asserts, in the past, the ships fill with the freshwater of Europe which contains high enormous mussel and empty this water at the America. On the other hand, nowadays, based on the people's awareness, the ships just fill by the ballast water from the ocean which is salty; and this water kills the mussel.
Next, the passage posits that since the mussel is a survivable species; as a result, it will be dominated in its new habitat. On the contrary, the lecturer challenges the validity of this fact. As he states, although they can be dominated in the beginning, after a while, the birds of new habitat will identify the mussel as the proper food option and alter their eating habits from previous fish to the mussel. Thus, the mussel is unlucky to be dominated in its new environment.
Finally, meanwhile, the reading part surmises that inasmuch as, the mussel is the plankton-eater fish; hence, the native fish population relies on the plankton will be declined, the professor refutes this presume. Based on his assertion, even though the mussel has the negative effect on the plankton-eater fishes, it is beneficial for the other species. For instance, it provides the relic from its eating, and this relic submerges in the bottom of the ocean, which can be considered as a sufficient food resource for the bottom-living fishes.
All in all, that is how the lecturer casts doubt on the accuracy of the claim mentioned in the article.
