The reading passage introduces a theory about ice age which has happened since 1350 until 1900CE and proved a three reasons to explain why this event occurred. However, the lecture states that all three reasons are out of date and new evidence proves none of them is right.
The passage tells that the massive amount of freshwater that produces during the warm period before the ice age can disturb the normal current of Gulf Stream which has a substantial effect on Earth climate. On the contrary, the professor declares the Gulf Stream cannot be a good reason because it just has an effect on Europe and North America, but the other place like New Zealand and North Africa could not evolve to this event for this reason.
Second, the reading explains that the by eruption of the volcano a dark cloud of dust and sulphur was sent into the atmosphere which prevents the light from reach on the Earth. However, the lecture believes that the volcano had to be strong enough to cause this event. It is true that eruption sends cloud dust into the surface, but people just see visual effects such sunset and grey snow because it does not have enough energy to make a serious effect.
Third, the article claims that the significant diminishing in human population let trees to grow and cover all of the grou nd. By increasing the number of trees, the absorbing of CO2 gas; which belong to the greenhouse gases and keep the Earth warm, increases and the condition for Earth to become cooler. In contrast, the professor tells that the human population quickly grew and did not let the tree to have a sufficient time to make adverse effects because human started to cut down trees for preparing grounds for cultivation the crops and other things.
