TPO-40 - Integrated Writing Task Many scientists believe it would be possible to maintain a permanent human presence on Mars or the Moon. On the other hand, conditions on Venus are so extreme and inhospitable that maintaining a human presence there would

The article states that the conditions on Venus are really extreme and inhospitable that the permanent presence of human is impossible in that planet and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that it is true that the existence of human on Venus is not without challenges but it is certainly possible. He sets forth the idea that by establishing a flooding station on the height of fifty kilometers above the Venus they can solve all the problems that are mentioned in the reading.

First, the reading claims that the atmospheric pressure on the Venus' surface is really greater than the surface pressure of Earth. The professor explains that it true that the surface pressure is really high in Venus, but in high up on the atmosphere, the pressure is lower and in the height of about fifty kilometers above the surface of Venus the pressure is equal to the surface pressure of Earth and so there is no danger of being crushed.

Second, the author declares that on Venus there are no reservoirs of water and oxygen and water have to be supplied to Venus from Earth. Nevertheless, the professor contends that Venus' atmosphere includes compounds such as carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid. Human can use chemical processes to produce water and oxygen from these elements. According to the professor, people can observe the necessary oxygen and water for their survivor by chemical actions and there is no need to supply them from Earth.

Third, the article avers that only a little light reaches the surface of Venus and most of the sunlight that hits this planet are reflected back to space because of the thick clouds that exist in its atmosphere. The professor states that in the height of fifty kilometers, the clouds are really thin and the station would be able to use the sunlight that hits directly from its above and also it also can collect the lights that are reflected by the clouds from below it. Based on the lecture, the station can use the power that is generated in this way.
