The lecture and the article are both about agnostids which are a type of ancient species of marine animals. The author of the reading believes that we can not know exactly about their eating habitats, so he proposes some theories. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that all those theories can be disproved.

First of all, the author points out that agnostids were free-swimming predators, because other primitive arthropods used to eat other small animals. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She supposes that all predators have well-developed eyes, but agnostids were blind.

Secondly, the author of the reading contends that those animals were seafloor dwellers, because other simple species lived this way. For this reason, it is possible that agnostids lived there and scavenged dead organisms. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She suggests that seafloor animals are not able to move for a great distance, so they live only in a small area. However, agnostids were found over the world, so they had an ability to move fast.

Finally, the article states that agnostids were parasites, because there are a lot of modern arthropods who exist as parasites. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that parasites have a small population, but those ancient animals had an extremely large population.

In conclusion, I would like to say that there are a lot of theories about how agnostids have may lived, but no one of them can be proved.
